Specifying marine refrigerators

Chilled storage from three makers

The refrigerators on this page come from Coldline, Electrolux Professional and Foster. Coldline's Master range makes up most of the list, because each Master body is offered in several temperature ranges, with solid or glass doors and as plug-in or remote versions, all carrying the Master Marine solutions variant. Electrolux Professional contributes the ecostore and Prostore marine refrigerators and two thawing cabinets, and Foster the EP700H, a 600 litre EcoPro G3 cabinet with marine legs, bulkhead brackets, a positive latch handle, marine shelves and a marine unit cover.

Sizes along a bulkhead

Coldline Master refrigerators run through seven bodies: 350 (334 litres gross, 535 mm wide), 500 (417 litres, 630 mm), 600 (512 litres, 740 mm), 650 (573 litres, 810 mm), 700 (601 litres, 740 mm), 1200 (1,155 litres, 1,480 mm) and 1400 (1,356 litres, 1,480 mm), all 2,085 mm high. The 700 XL body keeps the 700's footprint but raises net volume from 450 to 499 litres with side rails for XL grids. Electrolux ecostore refrigerators cover 670 to 1,430 litres on 710 to 1,441 mm widths, Prostore 500 gives 470 litres in 600 mm and Prostore 800 720 litres in 900 mm, while the Foster EP700H is 700 mm wide and 895 mm deep.

Temperature ranges

Coldline lists two chilled ranges, 0/+10 °C (N codes) and -2/+8 °C (M codes), and the Master Fish cabinets hold -6/+4 °C for fresh fish, molluscs, crustaceans and fillets, with ABS GN 1/1 pans over a water drain on most fish codes. The Foster EP700H holds +1/+4 °C. Multi-temperature Master Combi cabinets combine chilled compartments with each other or with a fish or frozen compartment, so a small galley can keep several kinds of stock in one 740 or 1,480 mm body. Those with a frozen compartment also appear on the Freezers page.

Solid or glass doors

Glass-door versions let the crew see the stock without opening the cabinet, which suits pantries and service areas, but they use more energy: the Coldline A70/1NV is published at 381 kWh a year against 327 kWh for the solid-door A70/1N. Coldline's plug-in refrigerators carry energy labels from class A to E, with the glass-door codes at the lower end, and the Foster EP700H is grade A at 310 kWh a year.

Plug-in, remote and refrigerant

The plug-in refrigerators from all three brands use R290, a natural refrigerant classified A3, higher flammability. Coldline's remote refrigerators run on R452a and connect to a condensing unit sited away from the cabinet; Coldline names matching remote condensing units, such as the NEK6210GK, as accessories. Electrolux Professional refrigerators add HACCP logging and network-connectable controls and are tropicalised for high ambient temperatures.

When to look at Freezers instead

This page covers chilled storage down to the -6 °C lower limit of the fish cabinets, plus thawing cabinets for controlled defrosting. For frozen stock at -15 °C and below, the Freezers page lists the Coldline, Electrolux Professional and Foster freezer cabinets, and a matching refrigerator and freezer from the same series keep a store room on one footprint.

Questions about marine refrigerators

Which marine refrigerator sizes are available?

Coldline Master refrigerators run from 334 litres gross (Master 350, 535 mm wide) to 1,356 litres (Master 1400, 1,480 mm), and Master Combi cabinets to 1,444 litres. Electrolux Professional ecostore and Prostore refrigerators cover 470 to 1,430 litres, and the Foster EP700H holds 600 litres in 700 mm.

Is there a marine refrigerator for fresh fish?

Yes. Coldline Master Fish cabinets hold -6/+4 °C in the 350, 700 and 1400 bodies, and Master Fish Combi cabinets pair a fish compartment with chilled or frozen compartments. Coldline developed the fish section for fresh fish, molluscs, crustaceans and fillets.

Do glass-door refrigerators use more energy?

In the published data, yes. The Coldline A70/1NV glass-door refrigerator is listed at 381 kWh a year, against 327 kWh for the solid-door A70/1N with the same 601 litre body.

Which refrigerators have HACCP logging?

The Electrolux Professional ecostore and Prostore marine refrigerators carry HACCP logging and network-connectable controls. Coldline lists RS485 serial and Cosmo cable or Wi-Fi connection kits as accessories for its Master cabinets.
