Specifying yacht galley equipment

Optima 700 rather than Optima 850

The yacht selection is defined as much by what it leaves out as by what it holds. MKN's Optima 850 and HotLine lines are not mapped to yachts, so the MKN equipment here is Optima 700, CounterSL, FlexiChef and the FlexiCombi, SpaceCombi and Junior combi steamers. Among the products that state a depth, 700 mm bodies outnumber 850 mm ones by nearly two to one, which suits a yacht galley where a shallower line leaves more of the room to work in.
Every Electrolux Professional product in the catalogue is mapped to yachts, including thermaline 90, 900XP, SkyLine combi ovens, green&clean dishwashers and ecostore and Prostore refrigeration.

The compact end of each category

For a yacht the useful figures are usually the smallest ones. The Junior and SpaceCombi combi steamers are 550 mm wide, against 867 mm for the narrowest SkyLine; induction cooking tables start at 400 mm; the Prostore 500 refrigerator holds 470 litres in a body 600 mm wide. In the laundry, Little Giants washers and dryers are 596 to 606 mm wide for 6 to 8 kg loads, narrow enough for a crew-area laundry recess.

Fresh water is the tighter limit

A cruising yacht works to a fraction of a commercial ship's water allowance, at roughly 4 to 20 litres per person per day, so every litre a dishwasher draws is a litre the watermaker has to replace or the tanks have to carry. The Miele MasterLine and ProfiLine dishwashers draw no more than 5.8 kW and suit a pantry where the load is irregular, and an Electrolux Professional glasswasher is 460 mm wide for a bar or guest pantry. The green&clean rack machines are mapped to yachts too, but they belong to the largest crew operations.
Cleaning practice is the other daily question: washdown protection is listed on 147 products on this page, which matters where a galley is cleaned with a spray gun rather than wiped.

AC supply only

None of the products on this page runs on a 12 V or 24 V DC supply; everything assumes an AC system from the yacht's generators or shore power. 400 V is the most common voltage named, followed by 380–415 V, 440 V and a group at 230 V, and 50 Hz and 60 Hz appear in nearly equal numbers.
A yacht built to one frequency and cruising where the shore supply uses the other needs each data plate checked, because a motor run off its rated frequency does not run at its rated speed.

Where the Ship and Offshore pages fit better

The Optima 850 and HotLine lines are not mapped to yachts, and neither are the larger Benchmark washer-extractors, including all of those above 20 kg. A superyacht with a crew galley or laundry built on that scale will find them on the Ship and Offshore pages instead. For provision cold rooms, extraction canopies, ice production or galley sinks, the yacht's outfitting package will need another source, as none is listed here yet.

Questions about yacht galley equipment

Which combi ovens fit a small yacht galley?

The MKN Junior and SpaceCombi combi steamers are 550 mm wide and draw 5.2 and 7.8 kW. The narrowest Electrolux Professional SkyLine combi oven is 867 mm wide, so the compact MKN units are the ones for a tight galley.

Is any of this galley equipment available for 12 V or 24 V DC?

No. None of the 679 products mapped to yachts runs on DC. The equipment needs an AC supply from generators or shore power, at voltages that include 230 V, 400 V and 440 V.

What washing machines suit a yacht crew laundry?

Miele Little Giants washer-extractors take 6 to 8 kg loads at 596 to 606 mm wide, and Benchmark machines up to the 13–20 kg band are also mapped to yachts. Larger Benchmark machines are on the Ship and Offshore pages.

How much fresh water does a yacht galley have to work with?

Cruising yachts typically work to around 4 to 20 litres per person per day, far less than the roughly 100 litres on a commercial vessel. That makes a dishwasher's water draw a planning figure on a yacht, not a footnote.
