Miele is a family-owned German manufacturer, now in its fourth generation, building commercial
laundry and dishwashing machines under its Miele Professional division. The marine programme is a
separate range: the same machines, specified and approved for life at sea.

What makes a machine marine

An appliance on board faces three problems a shore laundry does not. It runs on whatever voltage
and frequency the vessel generates, not on a national grid. It shares an already loaded HVAC and
fresh-water system. And when it fails, the nearest service engineer is a port away. The marine
range answers all three: machines leave the factory in the vessel's own supply configuration,
heat-pump dryers recirculate their own air rather than exhausting it, and Lloyd's Register type
approval is recorded on 35 of the 120 marine units we list, so it is worth confirming per model.

Laundry

Washer-extractors run from 6 kg crew-mess machines to 35 kg units for cruise-ship laundries, with
electric heating, and steam heating on selected models. Tumble dryers are available vented or heat-pump.
Rotary ironers handle bed and table linen, and more than half of the ironers we list have
feed-in belts. Where deck space is the binding constraint, a washer-dryer stack does the work
of two machines in a single bay.

Galley

Fresh-water dishwashers are supplied built-under, fully integrated and freestanding. Fresh water
every cycle matters on board for the same reason it matters ashore, but the fresh-water draw per
rack matters more.

WetCare

WetCare is Miele's water-based alternative to solvent dry cleaning. It contains no organic
solvents, so the effluent can be treated like any other detergent in the vessel's grey-water
system — which is the whole point at sea, where perchloroethylene handling and disposal is a
problem nobody wants.

Service

Miele lists 47 service branches with further representation in 150 countries, covering more than
3,000 ports, with spare parts stocked in over 50 countries and an international guarantee that
applies wherever the machine was bought.
