Miele Tumble Dryer PDR 944 [EL SOM] – 3 AC 400V 50/60HZ, Stainless steel

An 800 litre drum and a maximum evaporation capacity of 37.2 l per hour place the PDR 944 in the heavy end of the Benchmark Performance Plus range. With a quoted programme duration of 28 minutes and a specific energy consumption of 0.52 kWh per kilogram, it is sized for continuous-duty shipboard or offshore use rather than occasional cabin laundry.

The electrical connection is 3 AC 400V 50/60HZ with a total connected load of 37.7 kW and a 36 kW electric heater rating. That combination suits vessels and offshore installations built around a three-phase 400 V distribution, and avoids the need for step-downs or non-standard supplies. Maximum floor load is 3535 N at a net weight of 294.3 kg, which gives the naval architect a concrete figure for deck loading calculations. Heat dissipation into the room is quoted at 4 MJ/h, a relatively modest value against the output, but still a load that has to be handled by the laundry ventilation.

Capacity is also quoted for 168 cotton mops at 40 cm, 145 cotton mops at 50 cm, 267 microfibre mops at 40 cm, 188 microfibre mops at 50 cm and 248 stairway mops at 150 g, which is relevant on vessels where housekeeping textiles share the same plant as personal laundry.

This is the right dryer where the brief calls for a Benchmark-class, Performance Plus machine that can process up to 44 kg loads on a 3 AC 400V 50/60HZ exhaust-air system and where there is provision for a DN exhaust duct and sufficient electrical capacity. It is not the right choice for a small crew laundry running on a lower connected load or without the ability to duct exhaust air, where a smaller capacity or alternative drying system would fit the space and services better.
