Nine kilograms washing and nine kilograms drying in one front-loading column define the PDW 909 layout. An 80 l washer-extractor drum and a 180 l tumble-dryer drum are matched so a full 9 kg wash load transfers into the dryer without splitting.

In a shipboard laundry the column footprint, floor loading and heat rejection have to be quantified. This Benchmark Performance Plus stack stands 1,940 mm high, 692 mm wide and 761 mm deep, with a net weight of 208 kg and a specified maximum floor load of 3,235 N. Emission sound pressure level is 63 dB(A) re 20 µPa, and heat dissipation into the room is listed as 3 MJ/h from the washer-extractor and 1.62 MJ/h from the tumble dryer, figures that belong in the HVAC and structural calculations for an enclosed technical space.

On throughput, the washer-extractor’s programme duration is 45 minutes and the tumble dryer’s is 36 minutes. The washer runs a 9 kg load at a 1:9 fill ratio, spinning at 1,300 rpm to a g‑factor of 518. Residual moisture is specified as 44 % with hot rinse and 47 % with cold rinse, so the dryer receives linen at a known moisture band. On the drying side the fill ratio is 1:20, with residual‑moisture‑controlled programmes and a maximum evaporation capacity of 7.4 l/hour. Specific consumption figures are 6.6 l/kg water and 0.03 kW specific energy for the washer-extractor, and 0.51 kWh/kg for the tumble dryer, which gives the operator a basis for daily water and energy budgeting.

Electrically the two halves are similar but not identical. The washer-extractor is electrically heated with a 7.95 kW heater rating and 8.2 kW total connected load at 3N AC 400 V 50 Hz, protected by a 16 A fuse. The tumble dryer is also electric, with a 7.94 kW heater rating and 8.2 kW total connected load at 3N AC 400 V 50/60 Hz on a 16 A fuse. Cold and hot water are each supplied via 1x 1/2" hose with 3/4" threaded union, and drainage is via a DN 22 drain pump. Control is via M Touch Pro Plus on the washer, which is freely programmable with freely selectable delay start, and M Touch Pro on the dryer with residual‑moisture‑based programme control and up to 24 hours delay start.

The physical layout is set up for a narrow technical space. Door openings are 370 mm diameter on the washer and 440 mm on the dryer, each opening through 180°. The washer-extractor door is hinged on the right and the dryer on the left, keeping loading, transfer and unloading within one working arc in front of the stainless steel front. Construction type is a front-loading stack, with the unit specified for offshore installations and specified and approved for shipboard use.

This unit is a good fit where the brief calls for 9 kg washer and 9 kg dryer capacity in a single column, with a defined 3,235 N floor load and integration into an energy management system. It is the wrong choice where typical single-batch loads are routinely well above 9 kg, because the 80 l and 180 l drum volumes would force more cycles per day and extend turnaround.
