Nine kilograms of washing and nine kilograms of drying per cycle in one front-loading stack define the PDW 909 as a Benchmark Performance Plus column for a ship’s laundry. The washer-extractor drum volume is 80 l with a 1:9 fill ratio, and the tumble dryer drum is 180 l with a 1:20 fill ratio, so both sides are dimensioned around repeated 9 kg batches.

On board, the separate electrical data for each half of the stack are as important as the mechanical format. The washer-extractor runs on 3N AC 400 V 60 Hz with a 7.95 kW heater rating and 8.2 kW total connected load on a 16 A fuse rating. The tumble dryer has its own 3N AC 400 V 50/60 Hz connection with a 7.94 kW heater rating, the same 8.2 kW connected load and a 16 A fuse. That separation lets the electrical design size cabling and protection correctly for each appliance and check the effect on a 400 V distribution.

Specific consumption and cycle times are declared. Water use on the washer-extractor is 6.6 l/kg with a specific energy consumption of 0.03 kW per kilogram at the rated load. The 45 minute programme finishes at 1300 rpm, with a g-factor of 518. Residual moisture is 47 % with cold rinse and 44 % with hot rinse, which is the starting point for the exhaust air dryer. On the dryer side, specific energy consumption is 0.51 kWh/kg with a maximum evaporation capacity of 7.4 l/hour and a quoted 36 minute programme duration, so a full wash–dry sequence can be planned into the duty rota.

The stack stands 1940 mm high, 692 mm wide and 761 mm deep. Net weight is 208 kg with a maximum floor load of 3235 N, figures a naval architect can use directly in deck loading and stiffening calculations. Heat dissipation into the room is 3 MJ/h from the washer and 1.62 MJ/h from the dryer; in a compact laundry that load lands on the ventilation and air-conditioning plant. The emission sound pressure level is 63 dB(A) re 20 µPa. Door openings are 370 mm on the washer and 440 mm on the dryer, both with a 180° opening angle and hinges arranged “washing right / drying left” so loading and unloading can be handled from one working position.

The application examples tie the 9 kg rating to actual textile mixes. One cycle can take 204 cloths at 22 g, or 42 cotton mops at 40 cm, or 33 cotton mops at 50 cm, or 47 microfibre mops at 50 cm. Personal protective equipment and bedding are also covered: 4 respirator masks, 1 protective suit and 2 over jackets, or 1 synthetic duvet and 2 synthetic pillows, or 1 down duvet and 2 down pillows. The same machine is specified to process 2 summer horse blankets where those are part of the load profile.

This unit fits vessels that need repeated 9 kg cycles with washing and drying on one material number within a defined 3235 N floor load and 3N AC 400 V supplies. It is the wrong choice where individual batches are routinely larger than 9 kg, because loads above that point would have to be split across multiple programmes, underusing the 80 l and 180 l drum volumes.
