Hoshizaki Ball Ice Maker IM-65PE-E-Q – Self-Contained, Air-cooled, 58 kg/24h

Hoshizaki rates the IM-65PE-E-Q at 58 kg of ball ice per day. The ice drops into a 26 kg bin inside the same air-cooled cabinet. That works out to roughly 2.4 kg an hour. An empty 26 kg bin fills in roughly 11 hours at that rate.

Versions and cube size

As the EliteCUBE version of the IM-65PE, this machine comes with both the drain pump and UV-C sanitization. Drain position stops being a problem: the IM-65PE-E-Q pumps its waste water up to 1.5 m high and 10 m away. In the IM-65PE-E-Q the UV-C unit works on the tank water between regular cleanings. The same machine also comes as IM-65PE-Q (Basic Cube), IM-65PE-U-Q (UltraCUBE) and IM-65PE-F-Q (FlexiCUBE). There is also a water-cooled version, the IM-65WPE-E-Q, rated at 27 kg a day, using 210 liters of water a day against 430 liters here and putting 0.43 kW of heat into the room instead of 0.83 kW.

In numbers

Power draw is 0.29 kW on single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. Heat released into the room is 0.83 kW at 32 °C ambient. Daily water use is 430 liters, or roughly 7.4 liters for every kilo of ice. The IM-65PE-E-Q runs on 110 g of R290, which is propane (safety class A3), so the charge belongs on the installation paperwork. Hoshizaki lists automated cleaning, UV-C sanitization and internal drain pump for the IM-65PE-E-Q.

Fitting it on a vessel

Operating limits for the IM-65PE-E-Q are 1 to 40 °C ambient, 5 to 35 °C water and 0.7 to 8 bar, so check the space and the fresh water line against those. The condenser blows about 0.83 kW of warm air into the room, which a bar with poor ventilation will notice. Hoshizaki matches the IM-65PE-E-Q with the 4HC-H single filter system.
