Hoshizaki Ball Ice Maker IM-65PE-U-Q – Self-Contained, Air-cooled, 33 kg/24h

The IM-65PE-U-Q makes up to 33 kg of ball ice a day and keeps 17 kg of it in its own bin, so it only needs power, water and a drain to start working. Averaged out, the machine turns out about 1.4 kg an hour. An empty 17 kg bin fills in roughly 12 hours at that rate.

Versions and cube size

Hoshizaki sells the IM-65PE in four versions, and this one, the UltraCUBE, has UV-C sanitization of the water tank. Between scheduled cleanings, UV-C light treats the tank water inside the IM-65PE-U-Q. Other versions of this model: IM-65PE-Q (Basic Cube), IM-65PE-F-Q (FlexiCUBE) and IM-65PE-E-Q (EliteCUBE). There is also a water-cooled version, the IM-65WPE-U-Q, rated at 62 kg a day, using 310 liters of water a day against 370 liters here and putting 0.43 kW of heat into the room instead of 0.83 kW.

Footprint is 633 x 509 mm with a height of 860 mm before legs (add 90-125 mm); net weight is 52 kg. Power draw is 0.31 kW on single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. Heat released into the room is 0.83 kW at 32 °C ambient. Water consumption comes to 370 liters per 24 hours, or roughly 11.2 liters for every kilo of ice. Its refrigerant is R290 (propane, class A3), 110 g of it, which matters when you decide where the IM-65PE-U-Q goes. On the control side the IM-65PE-U-Q gives you automated cleaning and UV-C sanitization.

Fitting it on a vessel

The IM-65PE-U-Q is rated for rooms at 1 to 40 °C, with feed water between 5 and 35 °C at 0.7 to 8 bar. Air-cooled, it puts its 0.83 kW of heat straight into the room, so a closed pantry needs some ventilation. Pair it with a 4HC-H single filter; at 33 kg a day that is the size Hoshizaki specifies.
