Hoshizaki Cube Ice Maker IM-240APE Overview

Hoshizaki rates the modular IM-240APE at 210 kg of cubes per 24 hours, and you pair it with a storage bin sized to the ice needed at the start of service (Hoshizaki lists the B-140SB, B-210SB, B-340SB). That works out to roughly 8.8 kg an hour.

Versions and cube size

As the Basic Cube version of the IM-240APE, this machine comes with no drain pump and no UV-C unit. The IM-240APE makes the L cube, 28 x 28 x 32 mm, the standard size with no suffix. Other versions of this model: IM-240APE-U (UltraCUBE). Other cube sizes: IM-240APE-23 (M cube, 190 kg a day) and IM-240APE-32 (XL cube, 220 kg a day). Compare it with the water-cooled IM-240AWPE, which makes 205 kg a day, using 1,030 liters of water a day against 670 liters here and putting 2.51 kW of heat into the room instead of 2.51 kW.

Power, water and size

The cabinet is 560 mm wide, 700 mm deep and 880 mm tall, and weighs 78 kg. It draws 0.85 kW from a single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz supply, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. At 32 °C room temperature it releases 2.51 kW of heat. Daily water use is 670 liters, or roughly 3.2 liters for every kilo of ice. The IM-240APE runs on 147 g of R290, which is propane (safety class A3), so the charge belongs on the installation paperwork. Hoshizaki lists automated cleaning for the IM-240APE.

Fitting it on a vessel

Hoshizaki allows 1 to 40 °C in the room for the IM-240APE, water at 5 to 35 °C and a supply pressure of 0.7 to 8 bar. Expect roughly 2.51 kW of extra heat in the room from this air-cooled unit. Pair it with a 4HC-H twin filter; at 210 kg a day that is the size Hoshizaki specifies. For mounting the IM-240APE on a bin, Hoshizaki lists TK-30 for B-140SB, B-210SB, B340SB (optional, not required), TK-8D for B-210SB, TK-8D + TK18D for B-340SB. Before quoting we check the board voltage and frequency, the water connection and the fixing on board, since the figures above are for the standard IM-240APE.

NoteWater cooled units should have the condenser circuit connected to a self-contained recirculating system. It is likely that the connection of such units to the mains water supply may be a contravention of local water authority by-laws.
