Up to 190 kg of cubes a day from a water-cooled head that sits on a separate bin: the IM-240DWPE-U-23 is built for ice rooms and busy bars rather than a counter. Hoshizaki pairs the IM-240DWPE-U-23 with the B-340SB. Averaged out, the machine turns out about 7.9 kg an hour.

Choosing the version

Hoshizaki sells the IM-240DWPE in four versions, and this one, the UltraCUBE, has UV-C sanitization of the water tank. In the IM-240DWPE-U-23 the UV-C unit works on the tank water between regular cleanings. You get M cubes, 28 x 28 x 23 mm, at 190 kg a day, marked by the -23 in the code. Other versions of this model: IM-240DWPE-23 (Basic Cube). Other cube sizes: IM-240DWPE-U-32 (XL cube, 190 kg a day) and IM-240DWPE-U (L cube, 209 kg a day). There is also a air-cooled version, the IM-240DPE-U-23, rated at 180 kg a day, using 730 liters of water a day against 980 liters here and putting 2.25 kW of heat into the room instead of 1.47 kW.

Specs worth checking

The cabinet is 1,084 mm wide, 700 mm deep and 500 mm tall, and weighs 74 kg. It draws 0.77 kW from a single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz supply, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. At 32 °C room temperature it releases 1.47 kW of heat. It uses about 980 liters of water a day, or roughly 5.2 liters for every kilo of ice. The IM-240DWPE-U-23 runs on 147 g of R290, which is propane (safety class A3), so the charge belongs on the installation paperwork. On the control side the IM-240DWPE-U-23 gives you automated cleaning and UV-C sanitization.

Fitting it on a vessel

Check two things on board before the IM-240DWPE-U-23 goes in: room temperature (1 to 40 °C allowed) and water pressure (0.7 to 8 bar, water 5 to 35 °C). The water-cooled condenser suits tight, badly ventilated spaces, but the IM-240DWPE-U-23 needs a steady supply of cooling water, around 980 liters a day in total.
