Hoshizaki Cube Ice Maker IM-240WPE-E-23 – Self-Contained, Water-cooled, 190 kg/24h, M Cube

With 190 kg of cubes a day and a 110 kg storage bin, the IM-240WPE-E-23 is a self-contained water-cooled cube machine for bars, pantries and small galleys. That works out to roughly 7.9 kg an hour. From empty, its 110 kg bin takes about 14 hours to fill.

Choosing the version

This 190 kg/day machine is the EliteCUBE build, so it has both the drain pump and UV-C sanitization. Drain position stops being a problem: the IM-240WPE-E-23 pumps its waste water up to 1.5 m high and 10 m away. Between scheduled cleanings, UV-C light treats the tank water inside the IM-240WPE-E-23. Cubes from the IM-240WPE-E-23 come out 28 x 28 x 23 mm, which Hoshizaki calls size M, marked by the -23 in the code. If the version does not suit, the same body is sold as IM-240WPE-23 (Basic Cube), IM-240WPE-U-23 (UltraCUBE) and IM-240WPE-F-23 (FlexiCUBE). Other cube sizes: IM-240WPE-E (L cube, 207 kg a day). There is also a air-cooled version, the IM-240PE-E-23, rated at 180 kg a day, using 680 liters of water a day against 900 liters here and putting 2.58 kW of heat into the room instead of 1.54 kW.

Specs worth checking

The cabinet is 704 mm wide, 665 mm deep and 1,510 mm tall before legs (add 70-110mm), and weighs 102 kg. It draws 0.75 kW from a single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz supply, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. Heat released into the room is 1.54 kW at 32 °C ambient. Daily water use is 900 liters, or roughly 4.7 liters for every kilo of ice. Inside the IM-240WPE-E-23 is a 147 g R290 charge, and R290 is propane rated A3 for flammability. Hoshizaki lists automated cleaning, UV-C sanitization and internal drain pump for the IM-240WPE-E-23.

Fitting it on a vessel

Hoshizaki allows 1 to 40 °C in the room for the IM-240WPE-E-23, water at 5 to 35 °C and a supply pressure of 0.7 to 8 bar. With water cooling, only 1.54 kW reaches the room; the price is roughly 900 liters of water per day. For water treatment, fit the 4HC-H twin filter ahead of the IM-240WPE-E-23.
