Hoshizaki Cube Ice Maker IM-240WPE-E Overview

The IM-240WPE-E makes up to 207 kg of cubes a day and keeps 110 kg of it in its own bin, so it only needs power, water and a drain to start working. That works out to roughly 8.6 kg an hour. At that rate the 110 kg bin takes around 13 hours to rebuild after a busy service.

Which IM-240WPE to pick

As the EliteCUBE version of the IM-240WPE, this machine comes with both the drain pump and UV-C sanitization. Its drain pump lifts water 1.5 m and moves it up to 10 m, so a 704 mm wide unit like this does not have to sit over a floor drain. UV-C flashes treat the IM-240WPE-E's water tank between cleanings. Each cube from the IM-240WPE-E is 28 x 28 x 32 mm (size L), the standard size with no suffix. If the version does not suit, the same body is sold as IM-240WPE (Basic Cube), IM-240WPE-U (UltraCUBE) and IM-240WPE-F (FlexiCUBE). With a different cube it is the IM-240WPE-E-23 (M cube, 190 kg a day). Compare it with the air-cooled IM-240PE-E, which makes 210 kg a day, using 670 liters of water a day against 900 liters here and putting 2.58 kW of heat into the room instead of 1.54 kW.

Specs worth checking

The cabinet is 704 mm wide, 665 mm deep and 1,510 mm tall before legs (add 70-110mm), and weighs 109 kg. Power draw is 0.75 kW on single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. Plan for 1.54 kW of heat into the space at 32 °C. It uses about 900 liters of water a day, or roughly 4.3 liters for every kilo of ice. Refrigerant is 147 g of flammable R290 (A3), a figure the yard or class surveyor will ask for. Hoshizaki lists automated cleaning, UV-C sanitization and internal drain pump for the IM-240WPE-E.

Installation notes

Operating limits for the IM-240WPE-E are 1 to 40 °C ambient, 5 to 35 °C water and 0.7 to 8 bar, so check the space and the fresh water line against those. Water cooling keeps most of the heat out of the room, at the cost of about 900 liters a day from the tanks or watermaker. The matching water filter for 207 kg a day is the 4HC-H twin system. We quote the IM-240WPE-E against your vessel (supply voltage and frequency, water line, fixing), working from Hoshizaki's data for the standard model.
