Hoshizaki Cube Ice Maker IM-240XPE-32 – Modular & Stackable Extension, Air-cooled, 190 kg/24h, XL Cube

The IM-240XPE-32 is a modular cube head. It makes up to 190 kg of cubes a day but has no bin of its own, so it is always ordered with a storage bin (Hoshizaki lists the B-340SB). This is the extension unit: it stacks on a base unit of the same series and adds its output over one bin. Averaged out, the machine turns out about 7.9 kg an hour.

Choosing the version

Hoshizaki sells the IM-240XPE in four versions, and this one, the Basic Cube, has no drain pump and no UV-C unit. The IM-240XPE-32 makes the XL cube, 32 x 32 x 32 mm, marked by the -32 in the code. The same machine also comes as IM-240XPE-U-32 (UltraCUBE). Need a different cube? Look at the IM-240XPE-23 (M cube, 180 kg a day) and IM-240XPE (L cube, 210 kg a day). There is also a water-cooled version, the IM-240XWPE-32, rated at 190 kg a day, using 890 liters of water a day against 530 liters here and putting 1.47 kW of heat into the room instead of 2.25 kW.

In numbers

The cabinet is 1,084 mm wide, 700 mm deep and 500 mm tall, and weighs 71 kg. It draws 0.865 kW from a single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz supply, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. Heat released into the room is 2.25 kW at 32 °C ambient. It uses about 530 liters of water a day, or roughly 2.8 liters for every kilo of ice. Its refrigerant is R290 (propane, class A3), 147 g of it, which matters when you decide where the IM-240XPE-32 goes. Functions on the IM-240XPE-32 include automated cleaning.

Where the IM-240XPE-32 fits

The IM-240XPE-32 is rated for rooms at 1 to 40 °C, with feed water between 5 and 35 °C at 0.7 to 8 bar. Being air-cooled, the IM-240XPE-32 warms the space it stands in by about 2.25 kW; in a small pantry that is worth planning for. Pair it with a 4HC-H twin filter; at 190 kg a day that is the size Hoshizaki specifies. Top kits Hoshizaki lists for the IM-240XPE-32: TK-48 for B-340SB (optional, not required), TK-IMD2 for B-340SB.
