Hoshizaki Cube Ice Maker IM-240XPE-U-23 – Modular & Stackable Extension, Air-cooled, 180 kg/24h, M Cube

Up to 180 kg of cubes a day from a air-cooled head that sits on a separate bin: the IM-240XPE-U-23 is built for ice rooms and busy bars rather than a counter. Hoshizaki pairs the IM-240XPE-U-23 with the B-340SB. This is the extension unit: it stacks on a base unit of the same series and adds its output over one bin. That works out to roughly 7.5 kg an hour.

Versions and cube size

In the IM CUBE family the IM-240XPE-U-23 is the UltraCUBE, which means UV-C sanitization of the water tank. In the IM-240XPE-U-23 the UV-C unit works on the tank water between regular cleanings. Each cube from the IM-240XPE-U-23 is 28 x 28 x 23 mm (size M), marked by the -23 in the code. The same machine also comes as IM-240XPE-23 (Basic Cube). With a different cube it is the IM-240XPE-U-32 (XL cube, 190 kg a day) and IM-240XPE-U (L cube, 210 kg a day). There is also a water-cooled version, the IM-240XWPE-U-23, rated at 190 kg a day, using 980 liters of water a day against 730 liters here and putting 1.47 kW of heat into the room instead of 2.25 kW.

Footprint is 1,084 x 700 mm with a height of 500 mm; net weight is 71 kg. Power draw is 0.87 kW on single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. At 32 °C room temperature it releases 2.25 kW of heat. Water consumption comes to 730 liters per 24 hours, or roughly 4.1 liters for every kilo of ice. The IM-240XPE-U-23 runs on 147 g of R290, which is propane (safety class A3), so the charge belongs on the installation paperwork. Hoshizaki lists automated cleaning and UV-C sanitization for the IM-240XPE-U-23.

Fitting it on a vessel

Operating limits for the IM-240XPE-U-23 are 1 to 40 °C ambient, 5 to 35 °C water and 0.7 to 8 bar, so check the space and the fresh water line against those. Air-cooled, it puts its 2.25 kW of heat straight into the room, so a closed pantry needs some ventilation. Hoshizaki matches the IM-240XPE-U-23 with the 4HC-H twin filter system.
