Hoshizaki Cube Ice Maker IM-240XPE-U – Modular & Stackable Extension, Air-cooled, 210 kg/24h, L Cube

The IM-240XPE-U is a modular cube head. It makes up to 210 kg of cubes a day but has no bin of its own, so it is always ordered with a storage bin (Hoshizaki lists the B-340SB). This is the extension unit: it stacks on a base unit of the same series and adds its output over one bin. That works out to roughly 8.8 kg an hour.

Which IM-240XPE to pick

The version suffix tells you what is inside: the IM-240XPE-U is the UltraCUBE and comes with UV-C sanitization of the water tank. Between scheduled cleanings, UV-C light treats the tank water inside the IM-240XPE-U. The IM-240XPE-U makes the L cube, 28 x 28 x 32 mm, the standard size with no suffix. The same machine also comes as IM-240XPE (Basic Cube). Need a different cube? Look at the IM-240XPE-U-23 (M cube, 180 kg a day) and IM-240XPE-U-32 (XL cube, 190 kg a day). There is also a water-cooled version, the IM-240XWPE-U, rated at 209 kg a day, using 990 liters of water a day against 670 liters here and putting 1.47 kW of heat into the room instead of 2.25 kW.

Power, water and size

The cabinet is 1,084 mm wide, 700 mm deep and 500 mm tall, and weighs 78 kg. Power draw is 0.845 kW on single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. At 32 °C room temperature it releases 2.25 kW of heat. Daily water use is 670 liters, or roughly 3.2 liters for every kilo of ice. The IM-240XPE-U runs on 147 g of R290, which is propane (safety class A3), so the charge belongs on the installation paperwork. Hoshizaki lists automated cleaning and UV-C sanitization for the IM-240XPE-U.

Where the IM-240XPE-U fits

Check two things on board before the IM-240XPE-U goes in: room temperature (1 to 40 °C allowed) and water pressure (0.7 to 8 bar, water 5 to 35 °C). Air-cooled, it puts its 2.25 kW of heat straight into the room, so a closed pantry needs some ventilation. The matching water filter for 210 kg a day is the 4HC-H twin system. For mounting the IM-240XPE-U on a bin, Hoshizaki lists TK-48 for B-340SB (optional, not required), TK-IMD2 for B-340SB. Before quoting we check the board voltage and frequency, the water connection and the fixing on board, since the figures above are for the standard IM-240XPE-U.
