Hoshizaki Cube Ice Maker IM-240XWPE-23 – Modular & Stackable Extension, Water-cooled, 190 kg/24h, M Cube

Hoshizaki rates the modular IM-240XWPE-23 at 190 kg of cubes per 24 hours, and you pair it with a storage bin sized to the ice needed at the start of service (Hoshizaki lists the B-340SB). This is the extension unit: it stacks on a base unit of the same series and adds its output over one bin. Averaged out, the machine turns out about 7.9 kg an hour.

Choosing the version

This 190 kg/day machine is the Basic Cube build, so it has no drain pump and no UV-C unit. You get M cubes, 28 x 28 x 23 mm, at 190 kg a day, marked by the -23 in the code. The same machine also comes as IM-240XWPE-U-23 (UltraCUBE). With a different cube it is the IM-240XWPE-32 (XL cube, 190 kg a day) and IM-240XWPE (L cube, 209 kg a day). There is also a air-cooled version, the IM-240XPE-23, rated at 180 kg a day, using 730 liters of water a day against 980 liters here.

Power, water and size

It measures 1,084 x 700 x 500 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 70 kg empty. Power draw is 0.77 kW on single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. At 32 °C room temperature it releases 1.47 kW of heat. Daily water use is 980 liters, or roughly 5.2 liters for every kilo of ice. Inside the IM-240XWPE-23 is a 147 g R290 charge, and R290 is propane rated A3 for flammability. Hoshizaki lists automated cleaning for the IM-240XWPE-23.

Installation notes

Hoshizaki allows 1 to 40 °C in the room for the IM-240XWPE-23, water at 5 to 35 °C and a supply pressure of 0.7 to 8 bar. Water cooling keeps most of the heat out of the room, at the cost of about 980 liters a day from the tanks or watermaker. For water treatment, fit the 4HC-H twin filter ahead of the IM-240XWPE-23. For mounting the IM-240XWPE-23 on a bin, Hoshizaki lists TK-48 for B-340SB (optional, not required), TK-IMD2 for B-340SB. Before quoting we check the board voltage and frequency, the water connection and the fixing on board, since the figures above are for the standard IM-240XWPE-23.
