Hoshizaki Cube Ice Maker IM-45PE-E Overview

With 47 kg of cubes a day and a 18 kg storage bin, the IM-45PE-E is a self-contained air-cooled cube machine for bars, pantries and small galleys. Spread over a day, it is about 2 kg per hour. An empty 18 kg bin fills in roughly 9.2 hours at that rate.

Choosing the version

Hoshizaki sells the IM-45PE in four versions, and this one, the EliteCUBE, has both the drain pump and UV-C sanitization. With the pump, the drain for the IM-45PE-E can be 10 m away and 1.5 m higher, so you place the machine where the 503 mm cabinet fits best. The UV-C lamp keeps the standing water in the tank treated between cleanings of this 47 kg/day machine. You get L cubes, 28 x 28 x 32 mm, at 47 kg a day, the standard size with no suffix. If the version does not suit, the same body is sold as IM-45PE (Basic Cube), IM-45PE-U (UltraCUBE) and IM-45PE-F (FlexiCUBE). Other cube sizes: IM-45PE-E-25 (S cube, 43 kg a day). There is also a water-cooled version, the IM-45WPE-E, rated at 50 kg a day, using 250 liters of water a day against 110 liters here and putting 0.44 kW of heat into the room instead of 0.71 kW.

In numbers

The cabinet is 503 mm wide, 456 mm deep and 840 mm tall before legs (add 90-125 mm), and weighs 44 kg. It draws 0.255 kW from a single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz supply, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. Heat released into the room is 0.71 kW at 32 °C ambient. Water consumption comes to 110 liters per 24 hours, or roughly 2.3 liters for every kilo of ice. The IM-45PE-E runs on 70 g of R290, which is propane (safety class A3), so the charge belongs on the installation paperwork. Functions on the IM-45PE-E include automated cleaning, UV-C sanitization and internal drain pump.

On board

Hoshizaki allows 1 to 40 °C in the room for the IM-45PE-E, water at 5 to 35 °C and a supply pressure of 0.7 to 8 bar. Air-cooled, it puts its 0.71 kW of heat straight into the room, so a closed pantry needs some ventilation. Pair it with a 4HC-H single filter; at 47 kg a day that is the size Hoshizaki specifies. Before quoting we check the board voltage and frequency, the water connection and the fixing on board, since the figures above are for the standard IM-45PE-E.
