Hoshizaki Cube Ice Maker IM-45WPE-U – Self-Contained, Water-cooled, 50 kg/24h, L Cube

Hoshizaki rates the IM-45WPE-U at 50 kg of cubes per day. The ice drops into a 18 kg bin inside the same water-cooled cabinet. Spread over a day, it is about 2.1 kg per hour. An empty 18 kg bin fills in roughly 8.6 hours at that rate.

Which IM-45WPE to pick

As the UltraCUBE version of the IM-45WPE, this machine comes with UV-C sanitization of the water tank. In the IM-45WPE-U the UV-C unit works on the tank water between regular cleanings. You get L cubes, 28 x 28 x 32 mm, at 50 kg a day, the standard size with no suffix. The same machine also comes as IM-45WPE (Basic Cube), IM-45WPE-F (FlexiCUBE) and IM-45WPE-E (EliteCUBE). Other cube sizes: IM-45WPE-U-25 (S cube, 47 kg a day). The air-cooled twin is the IM-45PE-U: 47 kg a day, using 110 liters of water a day against 250 liters here and putting 0.71 kW of heat into the room instead of 0.44 kW.

Footprint is 503 x 456 mm with a height of 840 mm before legs (add 90-125 mm); net weight is 45 kg. Electrically it needs single-phase 220-240 V 50 Hz, drawing 0.225 kW, within ±6%, on a 5 A breaker. Heat released into the room is 0.44 kW at 32 °C ambient. It uses about 250 liters of water a day, or roughly 5 liters for every kilo of ice. The IM-45WPE-U runs on 90 g of R290, which is propane (safety class A3), so the charge belongs on the installation paperwork. Functions on the IM-45WPE-U include automated cleaning and UV-C sanitization.

Where the IM-45WPE-U fits

Keep the room around the IM-45WPE-U between 1 and 40 °C and the incoming water between 5 and 35 °C at 0.7 to 8 bar. The water-cooled condenser suits tight, badly ventilated spaces, but the IM-45WPE-U needs a steady supply of cooling water, around 250 liters a day in total.
