Three brands, three ways of building a marine cabinet

This category brings together upright storage cabinets from Coldline, Electrolux Professional and Foster, and each maker reaches the marine market differently. Electrolux Professional builds its ecostore and Prostore marine cabinets as separate product numbers, mounted on marine feet and, in Prostore, with runners and grid stoppers. Foster lists two EcoPro G3 cabinets with cabinet type Marine, fitted with marine legs, bulkhead brackets, positive latch handles and marine shelves. Coldline offers Master Marine solutions as a variant of its Master codes, which it describes as made for ships and for oil and floating platforms; the data published for those codes is that of the standard cabinet, and the marine build is confirmed at quotation.

Capacity and footprint

Gross capacities run from 334 litres, in the 535 mm wide Coldline Master 350, to 1,444 litres in the Master Combi 1400 with an L-shaped chamber. Electrolux Professional covers 470 litres (Prostore 500, 600 mm wide) to 1,430 litres (two-door ecostore, 1,441 mm wide), and the Foster EP700H and EP700L hold 600 litres in 700 mm. Every Coldline Master cabinet is 2,085 mm high and either 715 or 815 mm deep, which keeps a bank of different sizes on one line along a bulkhead; the Foster cabinets are 895 mm deep and 2,150 mm high and need 100 mm of clearance above.

Plug-in or remote refrigeration

Most cabinets here carry their own condensing unit. The plug-in cabinets from all three brands use R290, which has a global warming potential of 3 but is classified A3, higher flammability, so the charge per circuit is part of the installation specification. Coldline lists its Master Marine codes in both plug-in and remote versions; a remote cabinet connects by delivery and suction pipes to a condensing unit placed elsewhere and runs on R452a. On a vessel this moves the compressor heat and noise out of the galley or pantry, at the cost of pipework and a separate unit to site and maintain.

Temperatures and compartments

Refrigerators on this page hold ranges such as 0/+10 °C and -2/+8 °C (Coldline), -2/+10 °C (Electrolux ecostore) and +1/+4 °C (Foster). Freezers hold -18/-22 °C (Coldline), -15/-22 °C (Electrolux) and -18/-21 °C (Foster). Coldline adds two cabinet types the other brands do not list here: Master Fish cabinets at -6/+4 °C, developed for fresh fish, and Master Combi cabinets that put two or three temperatures behind separate doors in one body, for example chilled, fish and frozen stock in the 1,480 mm wide A140/3MPB. Electrolux Professional supplies thawing cabinets for controlled defrosting.

Supply and controls

The Electrolux Professional cabinets are listed at 220-230 V or 220-240 V, with 50 Hz and 60 Hz models and some Prostore models naming both; they carry HACCP logging, network-connectable controls and tropicalised construction. The Foster pair runs on 220-240 V at 50 or 60 Hz and is rated for ambient temperatures up to 43 °C. Coldline publishes its plug-in codes at 220-240 V 50 Hz, with a 60 Hz supply and other special voltages as listed variants, and its remote codes at 220-240 V 50-60 Hz.
