The ice makers on this page are Hoshizaki machines, and the first choice is the ice itself. IM CUBE machines make hard, clear cubes in five sizes, from the 21 × 21 × 14 mm XS cube to the 32 × 32 × 32 mm XL cube, for bars and drinks service. KM machines make crescent ice, FM machines flake and nugget ice, the CM-50 cubelet ice, and the IM-65NE and IM-240NE machines cylinder ice. IM-65 Q models make ball ice, and LM models big and long cubes.
Self-contained machines store their ice in a built-in bin, from 11.5 kg upwards, and suit bars, pantries and small galleys. Modular heads have no bin of their own: they stand on a storage bin, with a top kit where the head and bin tops differ, and IM-240 heads can be stacked with an extension unit to add output over one bin. Daily production runs from 27 kg for the smallest self-contained cubers to 1,800 kg for the largest modular flakers.
Most machines here are air-cooled and release their heat into the room, which the ventilation of a bar or galley has to carry. Water-cooled versions take cooling water as well as feed water and release far less heat, at the cost of higher water use, which on a vessel is drawn from tanks or the watermaker. The largest FM flakers and nuggets also come with a remote condenser that can be placed outside the ice-making space.
Every IM CUBE model is offered as the Basic Cube, the FlexiCUBE with a drain pump that discharges up to 10 m away and 1.5 m higher, the UltraCUBE with UV-C sanitization and the EliteCUBE with both. On a vessel the drain pump frees the ice maker from the position of the deck drains.
Hoshizaki Europe publishes single phase 220-240 V 50 Hz supplies for its machines, with the tolerance and circuit breaker per model, and the I-FIT series from Hoshizaki South East Asia is listed for 50 Hz and 60 Hz. Operating limits for ambient temperature, water temperature and water pressure are given on each product page. Most current machines run on R290, a natural refrigerant in safety class A3; larger modular flakers use R452A. Hoshizaki matches 4HC-H single, twin or triple water filter systems to each machine, listed under Water Filters.
Usually a self-contained IM CUBE machine with a built-in bin, sized to the ice used in a day and to the cube size served. The FlexiCUBE or EliteCUBE drain pump helps where there is no drain next to the bar.
A self-contained ice maker stores its ice in a built-in bin. A modular head sits on a separate storage bin, sometimes with a top kit, and produces more ice per day.
They release much less heat into the room than air-cooled machines, but use more water because the condenser is cooled by water. The choice depends on ventilation and on the water available on board.
Hoshizaki Europe lists single phase 220-240 V 50 Hz; the I-FIT series is listed for 50 Hz and 60 Hz. We confirm the supply against the vessel when quoting.
